Joseph Garbarino: Pioneering Leader in Recycling and Waste Management Passes Away
January 13, 2025Marin Sanitary Service mourns the loss of Joseph Garbarino, owner of Marin Sanitary Service and founder of Marin Recycling and Resource Recovery Association, a visionary in recycling and waste management who passed away at the age of 91. Known for his passion for conservation and innovation, Garbarino transformed waste management practices nationwide. From launching the first county-wide curbside recycling program in 1980 to advocating for sustainable packaging, his contributions have set a global standard. Joe’s legacy includes groundbreaking facilities, impactful legislation, and a deep commitment to education and community service. His visionary leadership will continue to inspire generations to prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility.
We deeply feel the loss of Joe Garbarino, but want to assure our customers and community that the values and commitment he instilled remain at the heart of our company. Under the combined leadership of his daughter, Patty Garbarino, as President, and her cousin, Dave Garbarino, as Vice President of Operations, Marin Sanitary Service will continue its tradition of innovation, excellence, and environmental stewardship.
