About Us

MaryJean (MJ) Koontz, MBA/DBA is a Vice President at Compass Commercial, representing a diverse spectrum of buyers and sellers. M.J.’s market knowledge and customer focus enable her to meet the needs of all her clients, whether first-time purchasers, seasoned investors or business operators. She is an expert at analyzing income-producing properties, multi-state 1031 exchange and reverse exchange scenarios, owner-occupier SBA financed industrial properties, multifamily properties, income producing vacation properties and small business holdings. She is particularly passionate about making real estate investment and wealth building accessible to a broader segment of people.
MJ is exceptionally suited to represent her clients because of her marketing and negotiating skills, responsiveness, integrity and knowledge of the field. She takes the time to sit and listen to each client's unique real estate investment goals, then works jointly to make those goals a reality. MJ holds a marketing-focused Ph.D from Golden Gate University, an MBA from USC and a BS from Georgetown University. Prior to her real estate career, she was CEO of STEMKIDS, a San Francisco-based educational-technology company.

Following a philosophy of a direct focus on the client, MJ gives 3% of her commission to the charity or organization of choice selected by each client, resulting in major donations to The Boys & Girls Club of the Silicon Valley, FEED America, an organization to educate teens about drug abuse and multiple local churches.
